Awaiting the Second Draft

The more I think about it, the more the dating scene seems to be like the NHL.

We are all looking to win the Stanley Cup, aka the good guy/gyal who we can have a contented life with.

What we want are the “star players,” the Ovechkins, the Crosbys, The Staals….

We prefer to get them when their rookies, so we can mold them to our liking.

A few us, used to be star teams back in the day. We were the popular girls who always had boyfriends and were inundated with candy grams on those 'special' days in high school.

Then they introduced the salary cap; we somehow got into long term relationships that didn’t work out, and suddenly we are five years older stuck with a few bozos. When we are finally become free agents, we look around, we soon realize we’re trading for other people’s leftovers from the first draft.

And the left overs suck. They are all either too old, prone to injury or worse they lack “Skillz.”

So we make the choice to suck for the next couple of years, so that we can get first dibs on the second drafts….you know: the ones coming off disappointing marriages looking for the ‘real’ love of their lives, the past geeks in UNI & have been transformed beyond belief or playas who are finally ready to keep their pants on…

How long till the second draft?

cool analogy. I used to joke around with my wife that I was going to trade her for a player as yet to be named or that I would soon become a free agent lol

Jdid: All Im saying is, don't be surprised if you get knocked over by a stick...

Albeni: So true about the stars....but occasionally you get the one star who sees only you through the groupies....(i Can't believe I am still hopeful on this!)

B&G: This post should be evidence of how I am such a great catch, dumming it down to their level lol

I like the analogy. Creative. The post about Indian people was soooo good. It had me rolling in the office.

LMAO...GOOD ting I don't follow hockey. I almost feel depressed reading your analogy. LOL.

I don't really like the star players, miself. Allan Houston has always been - and will continue to be - my favorite basketball player. Not because he has an amazing jump shot (I don't even know what his jump shot's like) but because he looks like a genuinely NICE guy. LOL.

yeah, he is not around the corner. You'll have to wade through lots more flakes, sweaty-handed posers, and hotbody stalkers. But you'll have some great stories to tell.

I agree second drafts are the way to go, I wish I would have known that 4 yrs ago - what a waste of time.

There was an interesting article in our local paper a few weeks back (just tried to look but I can't find it), that was about the modern institution of marriage...how people should expect (note that - EXPECT) to get married 3 times in their life - a 'starter' marriage in their early 20's in which they realise they are with an idiot who was a really bad choice, a 'kids and house' marriage where all the grunt work is done, and then a 'companionship' marriage for the sunset years - a relationship based on common interests and cheaper nursing home fees.

The second draft could be the 'kids and house' phase, which seems more substantial than the starter marriages, which seemed to be more about having a huge wedding.

I think I've wandered off the plot a bit, but I agree with the others - great analogy!!
