You know summer has begun when you get to sink your teeth into a juicy Alfanso Mango.
Alfanso Mangoes are small sized mangoes, grown in India. They are the sweetest mangoes on earth, though I am sure all the peeps from Carribean are going to disagree with me.
I say we settle this with a mangoe contest...you send me yours and Ill decide...

You're right, I'd disagree. I get those Mangoes here in England (we have a HUUUUGE Asian community so 'Indian' stuff is readily available). So I've sampled those Alfanso. (As an aside, I like their 'sweet' tamarind).
The sweetest mangoes I've had is one a lady (the owner of the tree) called 'needlenose' mangoes. They were small like the 'doo doos' mangoes, but somewhat thinner and longer, with a golden yellow skin when ripe.
How sweet were they? I saw black ants covering them by the thousands in the tree, 'Jack Spaniards', and even bees eating them long before they could fall off the tree.
Kinda unfortunate I can't provide a picture, but I will try to ask my sis to take a drive and get a photo. :-)
I don't like mangoes but if I was to eat any I would go for a Julie mango. I hope thats not just a Jamaican thing :p
I can't disagree until I sample those. Send some by Fedex and I'll tell you. There are so many varieties here in Jamaica. My favourites are the Julie, the East Indian and the Black mangoes. They may have different names elsewhere but my fellow Jamdowners will know the ones.
HAHAHA! I know what you're up to you sly fox! This is just a scam to get us to send you lots of free mangos!
Like Adrian said, give me a Julie mango and I'm cool! The others have to much hair so although I eat them I prefer Julie.
I can't think there is a mango I wouldn't like. C.mon Cp comparable at least:)
it seems that there is a unanimous decision among the jamaican blogging community - this is another vote for the Julie mango as the best ever!
I can't decide without proper evidence......
Can I throw an Australian contender into the ring? Bowen mangoes are grown in Queensland and are pretty special. They're also huge - one can be a meal in itself
They're hard to find though, these days. My parents had a tree when I was growing up and we had a neighbour who would come and raid the tree at night. He'd drive his car right up to our fence and then stand on the bonnet with a sack. My dad sprung him once and he took off...obviously forgetting that he'd have to come back for his car, which was still under the tree.
It's quite obvious that it's the Jamaicans who have been exposed to good mangoes. Love live the Julie!
And no, we not sending yu any to sample, dem too nice to part with ;)
Gela a lickle taste would go a long way for me to make a fair assessment.
Marika: Loved that story, my dad had a similar altercation with a neighbour the last time we were in India, and despite being the one caught with his hand in the 'honey pot' he got all 'I am entitled to God's green earth' on them....twas funny stuff.
SCJ... Could be a Nam Doc Mai... Sweetest I tasted so far... Not having sampled CP's mango yet...
julie mangoes a run tings! there is no competition!!
Trouble, don't let the size of my mangoes fool you, they the sweetest most delicious golden globes you will ever put in your mouth.
Jdid: I expect to taste these infamous mangoes when T and You invite me over for dinner...
hehe, I can't believe Stunner actually did a post/story about the Julie. hehe.
Bwoy putz, look like next time I'm passing thru Canada I'll have to bring some specially for you. Can't be living and not know how a julie taste.
Stunner, I felt your pain in that post about Julie, the love, the passion, the longing, But ofcourse my obsession is with Alfanso....Actually not that I think about it that new Akon song must be about mangoes. It must.
Gela: So when you coming to visit, I cannot wait!
JULEEEEEEEE mangoes, by far.
