My Boss got married over the weekend. It was her second marriage. I can’t even find a first, and these show off’s are on their seconds….
In today’s meeting we spent the last half an hour discussing the importance of good china and crystal. Apparently at your wedding you are allowed to sign up for horrendously expensive plates that will eventually make up your ‘good china.’ You then put this good china into a china display cabinet and proceed to look at it from time to time.
Good China often comes in floral patterns.
Note to my future ‘would be’ I have no interest whatsoever in good china, and am more than happy with my Ikea flat wear….so hurry up and get here already.
Ps. To all those with good china, I hope this post inspires you to be a rebel today, and open up those cabinets and eat some good ole KFC/Popeyes on the good china tonight..

Paper plates champ! Not quite China but Chinette! Elegant, neat, and recyclable.
Unfortunately, I have no food to put on the plates.
It's so sad. So, so sad.
good china and a cabinet to put it in?
I can't tell the difference between the good china and my regular plates.
... not that I have any good china
... even if I did I wouldn't know I had it
lol
My mom has a cabinet just like that. One time I made dinner and used those plates. She nearly had a heart attack. LOL. I have a theory that china is to older women what purses are to us. Except we use our expensive purses. Heh.
Second wedding eh? Must be nice to sucket two dudes into marrying you.
Just when I had managed to rid myself of my addiction to Popeyes fried chicken dis woman come and remind me of mah cravings...
God dammit... ah need some Popeyes!
My mother has a good china collection that was indeed a wedding gift back in 78. She has used it precisely 7 times since then and now realises that it takes up valuable space in her kitchen and that any sentimental attachement to it disappeared round about Meal #4. She is now trying to foist it off on me. I am resisting in principle, but I was in an (expensive!) homewares store the other day and was eyeing off this fantastically retro flatware and was even entertaining the thought of buying it when I realised that it was EXACTLY the same as my mother's wedding china. I fled in a hurry and have been curled up in a mortified little ball ever since.
y mom has good china too. occasionally she may take it out like every 5 years for christmas. it makes no sense, use the silly things i say. someone was going on about ashleys and some other place at yonge & bloor that has expensive china this weekend. such a boring conversation
LMAO @ The Breakfront Theory.
I think the whole expensive wedding registry thing is so pretentious. If you wouldn't normally shop there, then your wedding should be no exception. That's how one of my friends ended up with a single spoon from Tiffany's as a wedding gift.
we use the good china and there's no plastic cover on the couch.
LOL @ the plastic covers on couch...i have to admit my aunt deos that....i never could get that...
I am with you on the "good china" ...what good is it if u cant use it! ALthough again, i do have some plates that i only use in special occasions....but they do get used!
Good china is cool. If you use it and you can show everyone else that it is cool and that you are super cool using it :-) when others hide it away. Makes your food seem more important too. I am sure there were times when we had "special meals" where we ordered in KFC or pizza, and ate on the formal dining table with the fancy stuff :-D
that being said, you can get much cooler looking stuff that's cheap, and when it breaks as it will, you can go satisfy a new sudden desire to have purple plates to match the eggplants, with less guilt
