On Hosting a Party

The rules of party hosting have changed:

~Your guests are no longer grateful at being invited.

It’s your duty to invite them.

~They tell you that they are going to bring someone

Asking is for pussies.

~They are allowed to bring whomever they like, extended family who happen to be visiting, distant relatives, friends they haven’t seen in years, homeless of the street…and you as party host must look happy and delighted for the extra mouths to feed.

~Even though you give them three weeks notice, they reserve the right, to cancel a day before, or an hour before…. or better yet, they reserve the right to simply not show up.

Conclusion: The Big G is testing my extroverted personality….he’s sitting there mouthing at me……..see you really are a hermit….…..

Yay! Im first. NEway - you are soooo right. The rules have changed. My last party (it was a bbq weekend party) I met some people for the first time. But I too flipped the game and asked for people to sign-up to help clean the house after the party. I still ended up doing most of the work (those rat-bastards)

I hear you! Nat and I are in the middle of planning my 30th...and we're taking it to a restaurant. But now we have to consider what everyone considers "too expensive." UGH.

ooh yeah. u got that one right.
hence, why i don't bother. between those that complain i live to far and the ones that act like they never want to go home, i've resigned to poppin a bottle of wine solo.....and now i don't have to worry about double dippers or cleaning up after them :)

...oh, you are so very right.

I remember one BBQ we had where a family of 6 was brought by an invited guest (strangers to us) and started making culinary demands (we don't eat pork...is there more fish?) and then, while chatting with a group of people...I noticed the wife's sweater, and said: "Hey, I have a sweater just like that". It was mine. She had helped herself to it because she was cold.

Some people have more nerve than a toothache.
